Walter is an ex-Chief Officer (reefer, gen. cargo, container & LPG), working as a marine surveyor since 1989.

He pioneered ultrasonic tightness testing together with MacGregor, Lloyds, SDT International in late eighties, early nineties.

Walter is an author of several major reference works for the Nautical Institute on Ship Inspections, Hatch cover inspections, Mooring & anchoring ships.
