Commemorating Gothenburg 400 year

Welcome to the serene coastal city of Gothenburg, located on the picturesque west coast of Sweden. In 2021, we were all set to celebrate Gothenburg’s 400-year anniversary, but unfortunately, the pandemic had other plans. However, we’re excited to announce that the long-awaited celebrations and festivities have been rescheduled to 2023!

On a delightful Sunday, 4 June, the city was honoured to have His Majesty the King, Carl XVI Gustaf, grace us with his presence. The King joined us to celebrate not only Gothenburg’s remarkable milestone but also his own momentous achievement of 50 years on the throne. It was an extraordinary occasion filled with pride and joy.

The festivities continued with the inauguration of the Jubilee Park and the public harbour basin in the Gothenburg River. The King, alongside Aslan Akbas, chairman of the municipal council, hosted these special events, marking yet another milestone in Gothenburg’s history.

But the excitement doesn’t end there! We’re thrilled to announce that the celebrations will continue throughout the summer of 2023. From cultural showcases to captivating performances, there will be plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the city’s rich heritage and vibrant spirit.

At The Swedish Club, we’re proud to be a part of Gothenburg’s journey, and we wholeheartedly join in the celebration of this 400-year-old city. Here’s to many more prosperous years ahead!
