Concentrated inspection campaigns in Riyadh and Caribbean MOU
1 October – A Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Safety of Navigation in Riyadh MoU has been announced by the Riyadh MoU. The campaign will last for three months, from 1 October 2015 to 31 December 2015.
US – Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise releases LNG bunkering field notice
2 October – The field notice is critically important for all parties involved in liquefied natural gas bunkering operations to fully understand the risks that are presented when transferring LNG.
The future of Iran sanctions5 October – The JCPOA will be formally adopted on 18 October. At that point, a ten year time line on which the plan is structured will begin. Sanctions relief will then be phased in as Iran takes verifiable steps to fulfill its commitments with respect to its nuclear program.
Vigilance still crucial as Piracy High Risk Area in the Indian Ocean reduced
9 October – Organisations representing the global shipping and oil industry have announced that the size of the ‘High Risk Area’ for piracy in the Indian Ocean has been reduced and issued new advice to merchant ship operators.
Port situation in Yemen
12 October – Current status of the Yemeni Red Sea ports and entry information to the Yemeni territorial waters.
Prohibition of crude oil vessels from Nigeria
16 October – INTERTANKO continues to advise caution, recommending Members to avoid giving a LOC directly to NNPC. If the vessel has been chartered out on terms including the INTERTANKO Nigeria Trade Clause, Charterers ought to be responsible for providing such documentation.
RES COGITANS – Court of Appeal decides OW Bunker claim against the owners
23 October – The arbitration Tribunal and the Commercial Court had held that the OW Bunker contract was not subject to SOGA at all, and that therefore passing of title was not a condition for OW Bunker to claim payment under the contract. As a result, OW Bunker could claim payment despite that the physical supplier had not been paid.
Ban on use and carriage of heavy grade oils in the Antarctic area – now includes oil used as ballast
29 October – Use of heavy grade oil (HGO) as ballast in the Antarctic area* is now prohibited.
Upcoming environmental regulations for emissions to air – IMO NOx Tier III
30 October – The IMO Tier III requirements reduce nitrogen-oxide emissions (NOx) by approximately 76% in comparison to a Tier II engine.
Main Engine Lubricating Oil Outlet diaphragm
30 October – Incidents caused by failure of the lubricating oil outlet diaphragm connecting the main engine crankcase and sump tank.

MRM Campaign: The Swedish Club is offering free MRM licence for two years 12 October – Starting 1 January 2016, the Club will continue the initiative by offering to pay 50% of the licence fee for a period of two years. In order to receive MRM licence fee free of charge you must sign up before 1 January 2016.

2 October – The Swedish Club celebrated the 35 year anniversary of its office in Piraeus Greece with a coctail reception. The event was held at the Yacht Club of Greece.
Housewarming celebration in Oslo
23 October – Some 50 guests from the local marine insurance market joined The Swedish Club in a housewarming celebrating the move to new office premises at Tjuvholmen, Oslo.
