Two countries will soon join the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, Finland effective as of January 27, 2017, followed by China as of February 11, 2017.
The Convention has entered into force on April 14, 2015, with currently 31 existing members. The Convention adopts strict liability and compulsory insurance, regulating that the registered shipowner has an obligation to locate, mark and remove the wrecks considered to pose a hazard within the area covered by the Convention.
