Safety Alert Update from U.S. Gulf Coast Bunker Contamination
12 June – This safety alert raises awareness of a significant emerging problem in the U.S. Gulf Coast region regarding contaminated vessel fuel oil bunkers. This involves blended fuels oil such as Intermediate Fuel Oil (IFO 380) and has caused fouled fuel pump plungers, fuel pump seizures and other fuel system related failures.
A PFD that’s unwearable makes an emergency situation unbearable!
19 June – The safety alert raises awareness of a potentially dangerous circumstance involving Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs). Based on the number of problematic PFDs discovered, the Coast Guard is strongly recommending that owners and operators using this type of PFD inspect each one for this condition.
Yemen new update – Military confrontations have eased in Hodeidah
27 June – Military confrontations have eased in Hodeidah, pending a political deal that would bring the rebels out of the city and hand over the port to a neutral UN-controlled body. The port of Hodeidah is open and operational.

AGM: Mutual Cup – Trophy reclaimed by Team Sweden
20 June – This year’s AGM events began in traditional style with the annual football match between Team International and Team Sweden. After last year’s loss, Team Sweden reclaimed the trophy by winning the game with 2-1.
AGM: Dinner for early arrivals with Janes Bomb
21 June – Over 250 guest attended the Dinner for Early Arrivals, hosted on Wednesday evening. A cheerful evening where the guests were greatly entertained by the rock band Janes Bomb – with a little bit of help from the audience.
AGM: Members’ Day – An insight in government intervention in marine casualties
25 June – The topic of this years AGM event was Government intervention in marine casualties, a topic of increasing concern to the shipping community and yet one which rarely makes the headlines.
AGM: Partners’ Programme: A day of culture and cuisine in the heart of Gothenburg
27 June – The group started the day with a visit to an exhibition of the world’s largest private collection of Louis Vuitton bags and trunks, dating as far back as the 1850s.
AGM: Friday Tour – a day of exploration and networking
28 June – A tour of the Gothenburg Archipelago in the ferry “Drott”, followed by a gentle ramble and a delicious lunch on the small island of Knarrholmen, concluded the 2018 year’s AGM events.

19 June – Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2018: The Swedish Club announced at its AGM last week that it has appointed five new Board members.
- Dr. Zou Yingying, Deputy General Legal Counsel and General Manager of the Legal Department of China Merchants Energy Shipping Ltd.
- Mr. Gu Zhongdong, Deputy Managing Director of Cosco Shipping Lines Ltd.

Slow and steady wins the race to lower operating costs, says The Swedish Club
26 June – The Swedish Club warns that vessel operators should always look to the long term, when specifying the type of engines to be installed across the fleet. Latest statistics from the Club show that vessels propelled by medium/high speed engines have a claims frequency 2.5 times higher than slow speed engines, with an average claims cost of close to USD 650,000.
