As you may be aware there have been some incidents in recent months regarding the loading of iron ore from Buchanan, Liberia and possible problems with the moisture content / liquefaction of the cargo. In order to gain further insight into this problem and to witness first-hand the loading process and cargo care Bertrand Giraud and I recently visited the ArcelorMittal loading facility at Buchanan.

In this regard we would like to share with you a report on our visit in which we strongly recommended that Owners appoint a P&I surveyor for every vessel loading iron ore at Buchanan in order to protect their interests and minimise any risk to crew and vessel.
