Mark Sutcliffe, Director of security experts CSO Alliance, wants to start a conversation. He wants to hold this conversation with everyone involved in shipping and the entire supply chain.

”It’s time to build trust and mobilise the global community to fight back against organised maritime crime,” he says. “There is a huge focus on safety in shipping, but there has not been such a strong security culture – that is a problem and it needs to change.”

Attacks on ships are hardly ‘new’ news – and yet the shipping industry is not very good at rapidly communicating crime. Hence, for example, phishing emails can cause significant damage many times over, when they could be stopped in their tracks much earlier if information was shared.
